SLC 1
Eduacational Leadership Academy
Focuses on understanding how diversity in the United States has shaped our cities, how to research and document community needs, and how to develop a career pathway aimed at effective service to others. This SLC works in partnership with the CSUS College of Social Science and Interdisciplinary Studies.

SLC 2
Human Legal Services
Focuses on education, social, legal and protective services. Students can choose between two standards: The Police Academy
, with an emphasis on law enforcement and protective services or Legal Services Academy, with an emphasis on social and legal services. |
SLC 4
Johnson Corporate and Business Academy
Focuses on computers, business, administration, and management; marketing and sales. This pathway includes the Corporate Academy, with an emphasis on job shadows and income tax preparations. |
SLC 5
Transportation, Engineering,
Citizenship House
and ROTC
Students participate in a rigorous cross-curricular program of problem solving, citizenship, and technology. Through partnership among students, parents, staff, and the community, students engage in exploring a wide range of opportunities across the themes of engineering, transportation, and leadership. |
SLC 6
Health and Medical Services
Focuses on health, wellness, medicine, fitness and human development. This career pathway collaborates with Sutter Health, Shriners Hospital, UC Davis Medical Center, and ROP and various other healthcare facilities. |
SLC 8
Arts, Multimedia, and
Entertainment
Focuses on visual, craft, and performing arts. This pathway includes Computer Garphics and Digital Mediam ROP classes. |

International Cultural Community
The International Cultural Communtity (ICC) reflects California's great diversity. At any given time you will find students in our SLC from over 30 different countries, speaking a wide variety of languages. We feel our strength lies in our rich diversity. The ICC embraces the different cultures that our students and their families bring with them to our school and helps to support them as they embrace a new culture and a new language, English. |
All Hiram Johnson 9th graders are a part of the freshman academy. Some freshmen struggle to adjust to highschools large campus,expectations,and academics so teachers work together in the freshman academy to helpHJ freshman be successful. to help adjust highschool, all 9th graders take a high school success class in addition to other required classes and electives. At the end of there freshman year students chose which small learning community they'll participate in as sophmores, juniors , and seniors. |
