International Cultural Community
The International Cultural Community (ICC) reflects California's great diversity. At any given time you will find students in our SLC from over 30 different countries, speaking a wide variety of languages. We feel our strength lies in our rich diversity. The ICC embraces the different cultures that our students and their families bring with them to our school and helps to support them as they embrace a new culture and a new language, English.
The ICC community has 4 main goals:
1. To strongly emphasize improving our students' English language
ability so they will be prepared to take the California High School Exit Exam
(CAHSEE) and be able to to test out of ICC and enroll in one of Hiram Johnson's other
Small Learning Communities (SLC) of their choice.
2. To support our students in their transition into a new culture and new school.
3. To support our students as they take other required calsses in preparation for graduation.
4.To offer bridges for our 12th grade students if they choose to attend institutions of higher education.
