Students involved in these programs are very hard working and motivated.

VITA

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) This program offers free tax help to low- to moderate-income people who cannot prepare their own taxes.  Students volunteer their time and effort, striving to help taxpayers get as much refunds as possible.  They must undergo thirty hours of training before being certified by the IRS to help prepare taxes. VITA sites are generally located at schools, community centers, library, and other conventional locations.

HJ HEALTHY WAY

HJ Healthy Way is a student run business that promotes healthy eating habits. Students reach out to staff and the community to sell affordable and convenient fresh fruits and vegetables. The students of Hj Healthy Way sell bags of fruits and vegetables, $10 for a bag, and $20 for an organic bag. They meet every week on Tuesdays and Thursdays in room S10B, also known as the ASB room. The program receives support from JCBA staff and FreshProducers. They are advised by business leaders and Mr. Brown. Wells Fargo has also donated $10,000 to help provide for the neccessities of the program. This program was successfully sustained because of Cindy Saechaow who never gave up in her determination and motivation in bringing HJ Healthy Way back this year. From the beginning of the school year Ms. Saechaow had contacted various advisors to make HJ Healthy Way a dream come true. If you would like to be part of this amazing program and earn invaluable business experience to enhance your resume and college application for future references, please talk to Cindy Saechaow or come to S10B on Tuesdays or Thursdays.

Dress for Success

Dress for Success, DFS, occurs on the first of every month. The business house does not require but does encourage all students to wear business-type attire. Also, every Monday JCBA student wear his/her green JCBA polo shirt, free complimentary from the JCBA house. Also, that person would get extra credit from the teacher who approves. Being professional in the business world matters, and in the JCBA house we want to prepare our students for the real world by letting them practice Dressing for Success.

Read some quotes from JCBA students!

The professionalism of students across the Hiram Johnson High School campus is remarkable. When JCBA students walk together in their business green polos striding in the halls intrepidly, it makes the JCBA teachers proud to know that they are in the same house.
